Cindy,
This is a common misconception. There are two types of newswires: those that issue press releases (like PR Newswire, BusinessWire, MarketWire and GlobeNewswire); those that license stories written by them (like AP, Reuters and UPI).

The latter don't run press releases but they will certainly take a press release and "rewrite it" into a story.

The best way to reach these newswires is by using the first type of newswire as that is where they find many of their stories. Alternative, you can reach editors and writers at these newswire through email and social media.

You will find it easier to be considered if you have established a connection or relationship with these media.

Is there a UPI or AP still available to send out a press release? I have a PSA on how to build a solar heater out of coke/beer cans and a cardboard box.
Thanks
